Blue Season Bali Blog Post
Earlier this year Niels, Jo & the Scuba Panther visited various schools in Bali to share ideas on how the kids could help protect the ocean. Alongside, they also launched the Artificial Reef Design Contest. The idea behind the community reef building project was to encouraged kids to submit their ideas and creative designs. The team at Blue Season then raised funds through various fund (fun) raisers.
This idea was brilliant as the kids were engaged and excited to have their designs built, and we even received an offer from a local business to sponsor field trips for kids to conduct coral growth surveys!
It was not easy to decide on the winning design, and so a voting campaign on facebook was created. However, the results were close between the top two designs.
Finally there was a consensus and the winner won by a higher number of votes, combined with a higher score in practicality, originality.
Congratulations Dylan, Ray & Dali, and thank you for your brilliant illustration of “The Whales of the Sea”. You will each be getting a Discover Scuba Diving experience with us, and also receive a coral growth photo from us every 6 months 🙂
The structure is scheduled to be completed by December, and will be placed near Sanur channel
Personally I feel the Whale design really suits. It’s probably best to keep the habitat somewhat ‘natural’ with creatures of the sea. I mean we don’t want fishes to be too familiar with car-shaped reefs, lest one day they invade the land, don’t you think 🙂
Feel free to drop us a line if you are interested in participating in the artificial reef construct.
