Best Dive Job Blog | 5 additional specialties for MSDT
I’ve officially been in Bali for 2.5 months and in that time I have gone from Rescue Diver all the way to PADI Scuba Instructor. Now I am embarking on the next step in my Best Dive Job adventure, the Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) internship. Over the next two months I (along with James my IDC partner in crime) will be teaching a variety of PADI courses under the guidance of Blue Season Bali’s experienced instructors. Not only will we learn invaluable tips and tricks from a group of very experienced instructors but we will also get our first 25 certifications. I’m sure it will be much easier to enter the competitive job market with a few months of experience and a book full of certifications under our belts.
Because James and my Instructor numbers won’t be processed for a few days, Blue Season uses this time to complete an MSDT prep program where we become certified in teaching 5 additional specialties (wreck, deep, drift, nitrox and oxygen provider). Today we did our wreck instructor specialty on the USAT Liberty Wreck in Tulamben. Over two dives we learned how to help students practice skills they need to master on the Wreck Diving specialty course such as line laying, mapping and wreck assessment. It was an especially nice dive for James and new Staff Instructor Intern Simone because it was the first time to the wreck for both of them.
In between all the line laying and wreck surveying, we also managed to spend a bit of quality time with the local aquatic life including a giant sea turtle, schools of fusiliers, some giant trevally and even a Napoleon wrasse (my personal favorite!). So nice to be back in the water and back to what I love after a month of hitting the books during the IDC.
I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s MSDT Prep dives, We are off to Nusa Penida for deep and drift! Just another tough day at work here in Bali!
