Best Dive Job Blog | Three best dive spots in Nusa Penida for Advanced Open Water course
Being an Open Water Diver is a great way to explore the underwater world but there is so much to see and do beyond the limits of an Open Water license. Want to go deeper? Drift with the current along beautiful sites effortlessly? Understand and identify different types of underwater creatures, fish and plants? How about exploring a sunken shipwreck or navigating a dive site on your own? If you answered yes to any of these questions then it’s time to become a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver.
Last week I spent two days with Thomas from the Netherlands as he completed his Advanced Open Water Course. It was a great two days of diving. Here at Blue Season we want our students to get the most out of their Advanced course so we include one day of diving at Nusa Penida (3 dives) and one day at the USAT Liberty Wreck in Tulamben (2 dives).
If you are thinking of doing an advanced course with Blue Season I suggest following the same schedule as Thomas and I.
Day 1 – Nusa Penida
Dive 1: “Toyapakeh Jetty” –Deep Dive – We hit 30 meters, looked at colour and pressure changes underwater and then spent the remainder of our dive cruising with giant trevally, snappers, groupers and the like.
Dive 2: “Toyapakeh Drift” – Drift Dive – Thomas got to experience what it’s like to cruise along a dive site being pushed by a current. He learned to compensate for up and down currently and how to position himself properly in the current. We were lucky to spend the dive surrounded by a school of hundreds of red tooth triggerfish – GORGEOUS!
Dive 3: “Manta Point” – Underwater Naturalist Dive- For this dive, Thomas learned about and identified different types of underwater animals both vertebrates and invertebrates. He also learned about coral and the different types of marine animal relationships. Lucky for us we got to spend most of the dive with some pretty exciting wildlife. 5 giant manta rays!! We were even lucky enough to see a rare black manta.
By the end of the day Thomas had logged his 7th dive in his logbook but had seen aquatic life that people wait a lifetime to see. Pretty lucky if you ask me.
