Best Dive Job Blog | Snorkeling in Nusa Penida
Today Blue Season was bustling with a group of 24 university students from the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology in South Korea. A full day snorkeling trip to Nusa Penida was a great way for them to experience the amazing biodiversity here in Bali and to create practical links between their studies in genetics and evolutionary biology and the real world. For many of them it their first time snorkeling so there was a lot excitement in the air.
Our trip started in Lembongan Bay. Many of the students were quite nervous when they first entered the water but there were lots of life jackets on hand for those who wanted them and there was a certified guide with a flotation buoy for every 4 students. The fish and coral at Lembongan Bay were spectacular and after an hour in the water we reluctantly returned to our boats for lunch.
Our second snorkeling site was Gamat Bay. This site is a shallow sheltered bay on Nusa Penida Island with tons of gorgeous hard and soft corals and schools of beautiful butterfly fish (among many others). Having overcome their nerves, the students were jumping in the minute the boat engines stopped. Some students were happy to remain on the surface while others spent their time duck diving down to get a closer look at the local underwater inhabitants.
After another hour in the water it was time to return to Bali. 🙁
